Rex's Cafe - What a gem
This time she was craving something breakfast-y, something sweet that wouldn't only satisfy her sweet tooth but it would have to be within walking distance since she needs to get her exercise in.
Food: To me, the most important piece in the restaurant puzzle is the food. Rex's food was nothing short of excellent. The recipes are classic, timeless and always on the safe side of the spectrum. So, don't expect any adventurous dishes. The ingredients are high quality and fresh. The food choices are abundant and I am sure you will find something that will make your heart content.
Coffee: I have only tried their regular coffee and it was very good. the coffee was very earthy and bold yet not acidic. I didn't care to try their Lattes as they seem to adorn them with chocolate syrup which I am not a big fan of.
Service: The hostess, the waitress and the busboy were fast and always very polite. The waitress was very accommodating to my request to substitute side dishes. They all had a sense of pride on what they did and they all had a smile on their faces.Ambiance: It's a small and cramped restaurant. Most of the tables and chairs have some degree of wabble. I found it funny when Rex's staff recommended me a table based solely on how wabbly the table was. Despite her recommendation, the table that we used was very unstable but we managed.
Parking: You have to be patient finding street parking. Believe me, it's worth it.
Value: Excellent. Most of the their dishes are around $10.00 and the portions are very generous. The coffee seems to be the only thing that it is a little overprice charging you $2.50 for a regular and refillable cup of Joe.
